About B.O.L.T.

BOLT is Beginning Our Life Together
An introduction to the shared faith, values, and vision of
Community Presbyterian Church, Ventura.

BOLT is designed to effectively provide opportunities to

  • discover pathways to spiritual growth
  • meet new people and begin new friendships here at CPC
  • better understand our church (our history, beliefs, organizational design, core values and vision)
  • discover your gifts and matching opportunities to make a difference in the life and mission of our church
  • explore the privileges and responsibilities of membership*

Feedback from recent BOLT ‘grads’…

  • “I would recommend this class to all people looking for a church home, whether or not they have decided to join…”
  • “New members feel prepared with an understanding of the Christian faith, Presbyterian beliefs, and of our unique congregation”
  • ”Attending the BOLT class gave me a greater understanding not only of the Presbyterian denomination but also of what I believe and what standards are important to me in a church body. It was a faith-strengthening experience!”

BOLT Format:
Offered in the fall and spring, the BOLT course consists of five sessions. Each session includes dinner, a talk, and small group conversation. Topics include:

  • What is a disciple?
  • What about the church?
  • What do we believe?
  • How is our church organized?
  • Where are we going? (including a question/answer session with our Sr. Pastor, Mark Patterson)
Ministry Connection Interview (MCI):
Each BOLT course concludes with a one to one conversation with a trained MCI facilitator, enabling each participant to discover possible ways that his/her gifts and interests might match with opportunities to serve in the life and mission of the church.

BOLT Child Care:
Safe, professional care for children birth through fifth grade (including children’s meals) is provided by advance reservation.

Cost: there is no registration fee for BOLT.
A love offering is received at the close of the course to help cover expenses for meals and materials.

* Participation in BOLT is a requirement for church membership. Whether or not you choose to pursue membership, BOLT provides an effective gateway into informed participation in the life of our church family.
